On December 5, 2010, the Technical Supervision Committee of the Ministry of Public Security approved and issued the industry standard GA 79-2010 fire ball valve, which is a mandatory standard and shall be implemented from the date of approval. GA 79-1994 performance requirements and test methods for fire ball valves shall be abolished at the same time.

Fire ball valve is the main component of fire water supply pipeline, widely used in fire fighting water supply system, foam extinguishing system, fire engine and other fire fighting facilities and fire fighting equipment. Its performance directly affects the stability and reliability of water supply pipeline. The original fire ball valve standard was formulated in 1994. This revision further improves the technical requirements and test methods of fire ball valve in combination with the implementation of the standard over the years and the technical development trend of relevant products at home and abroad.

Compared with the 1994 version, the new version of the standard mainly makes the following changes in technical content:

1. The classification of "driving mode" is added;

2. The specification requirements are simplified, DN (nominal size) is selected according to relevant standards, and the model preparation method is adjusted;

3. The requirements for structural length and connection size of ball valve are added;

4. The requirements for flow passage of ball valve are added;

5. The requirements for power driving device of ball valve are added;

6. The corrosion resistance requirements and test methods of overcurrent components are added;

7. Requirements for emergency operating handle are added;

8. The indexes of pressure resistance, sealing performance and static pressure life are modified;

9. The provisions on the coating color of ball valve are deleted;

10. The packaging, transportation and storage requirements of ball valves are modified;

11. The description of ball valve test procedure and sample quantity is added.

The release and implementation of the industry standard meets the development needs of the fire ball valve industry. It will vigorously improve the pressure bearing capacity of the fire ball valve in the water supply pipeline, greatly improve the safety of the water supply pipeline, and play an important role in further strengthening the quality supervision and management of products, promoting the popularization and application of new products and technologies, and ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.
